Description

There's a reason for the crappy quality in this one. You see, recently, I had my Drawing exam. Later, after being graded and all that, they let us request a copy of it, to check it and, if we want, to sign up for the second phase of exams. Which, in another words, is just doing one more exam to raise our grades.

So I requested my exam. You see, it's not because I want to do another exam. I just wanted to keep this image with me in some way. BECAUSE I DAMN LOVED HOW IT CAME OUT.

The sad part is, the copy they give us is, literally, a copy. A photocopy. So, just because of that, it loses half of its quality. Most of this was made (as you might be able to tell) in watercolours. You see those bits over the white that look grainy? The watercolour was fading in those parts. It wasn't supposed to be grainy. Also, there are these horrible printing lines all over the place. Oh, and to make things worse, the people who printed this image had the amazing idea to print the image sideways. In other words, the image got cut and had to be spread through TWO A3 sheets.

If the photocopying wasn't enough to fuck up the whole image, I now have two slightly different images pasted together. Which is major shit.

Also, the brown in the background? It was supposed to be nearly black. In fact, thanks to this image, I just found out that I have been using brown instead of black this whole time.

I'm happy, though. I mean, it's still pretty loyal to the original (which I'll never get to keep, because it's now archived, along with thousands of other exams, doomed to be forgotten for all eternity).

I also played a bit with brightness and contrast, but, really, there's no crime in that after what this has gone through.

In the exam, they gave us a poem by Fernando Pessoa (some early 20th century drunkard and druggie who got famous because he wrote poetry about his oh-so-awful sorrows and Portuguese history) and a simple image of some sort of greyish face with a tongue sticking out. The poem in question was O Monstrengo (lit. The Monster; one could argue it could translate to "The Big Bad Monster", but that would just look sillier. But then again, the original title already sounds a bit silly), which relates those mythical sea monsters made of clouds and water that embody storms.

Based on those two elements, we had to make an illustration. So this is what I did. Pretty darn happy with it.

This concludes what might be my longest description ever. Whew.

I bet yer all loving that sweet-ass mo'fucken sexy tongue, eh?
